How to Throw

Safety First!

Maximum of two people will be allowed in the throwing area at any time.
The
red line is there for your safety. Because two people are throwing at the same time, each person must wait for BOTH axes to cross and land/stick on the other side of the line before crossing to collect your axe.

Throwing Goals
Bullseyes all day! Well, maybe not at first, but the best way to get there is by focusing on distance and rotation. The axe should only rotate once by the time it hits the target. For distance, to start we'll have your toe at the front black line. Once you feel comfortable or find consistency then we can scoot forward or back from the line. Now the throws!

One Handed Throw

1. Dominant foot right up to the line. Dominant hand holding the axe

2. Raise the axe above your head, keep the handle of the axe parallel with the ground

3. Take a step forward with your nondominant leg.

4. As your foot lands, throw your arm forward and allow the axe to slide out of your hand.

Two Handed Throw

1. Dominant foot right up to the line. Dominant hand holding the axe

2. Have your other hand wrapped over your dominant hand. (Don't interlock your fingers)

3. Raise the axe above your head, keep the handle of the axe parallel with the ground

4. Take a step forward with your nondominant leg.

5. As your foot lands, throw your arm forward and allow the axe to slide out of your hands.

TIPS

  • You don't need to throw hard. Smooth consistent movement will do you better than throwing hard.

  • Try not to flick your wrist as you release the axe, this will introduce additional rotation to your throw.
